Sony extends rebate on HXR-FMU128 to April 30th

The 128GB Flash Memory unit for the Sony HXR-NX5U video camera rebate (of $500) has been extended from 3/31 to 4/30. The unit is on backorder in several locations, which may be the reason for the extension.

The HXR-FMU128 normally retails for $749.95, but the $500 rebate brings it down to a much more palatable $249.95. Since 32GB SDHC cards are selling for about $100 right now, with the rebate the HXR-FMU128 comes in at almost have the price of four 32GB cards.

[UPDATE]  It seems that the date for filing the rebate was extended, but the period for buying it did not change. The important details that may have caused confusion when looking at the rebate forms:
Eligible models must be ordered from a Sony Authorized Reseller, Third Party Reseller of an Authorized Distributor or directly from Sony by March 31, 2010 and shipped to end user customer by April 30, 2010 to be eligible for rebate.

do you have a source for this from a sony publication. I have an email from them saying I can still get it if purchased in April, but now that i have purchased, they are telling me it wasn't exteded and i will be denied. Here we go JP court!

It seems that just the rebate mail-in date was extended, not the purchase period. So if you'd purchased but not received it you might be okay i.e. what's the date of the order?

Alternatively, Sony now has an NAB discount of $250 which you qualify for if you bought the FMU and a camera (which seems likely.)

Otherwise, can you still return it?

Sony GV-D200 I've been using a Sony GV-D200 deck to transfer old Video8 and Hi8 tapes. In response to my iPhone musings, I got the following reader email which actually sums up a lot of my second and third thoughts too: You might have a point about the fancier camera, but otherwise I would buy the smaller model. Its screen is about the same size as that of my Nexus 4, and I don't feel at all like it limits me with a too-small screen.
