Canon XA10 Manual

Canon has posted the manual for the upcoming XA10. The camera itself is not expected to be available until March.

The XA10 shares much in common with the high-end consumer camera, the VIXIA HF G10 [$1,499.00] which was announced at the same time at the XA10. The most notable difference between the two is that the XA10 comes with a detachable handle that includes XLR inputs.

The camcorder's native 1920 x 1080 CMOS sensor records 60i, 24p, PF30, and PF24 frame rates with a 10x HD video lens with an 8-blade iris (sensitivity to f/1.8) and a 35mm equivalent zoom range of 30.4mm-304mm. Other features include dual relay recording, waveform, color peaking, and zebra patterns.

I tried to (as suggested on the site-page) download the 'Canon XA10' and got the code Reference #24.770f1160.1309326421.13e1f71. And that I was not authorized to download the Manual. Clearly Canon has abandoned this product as it is out of stock. Too bad, I was about to be involved in a benchmark use of your little toy, but no.... Michael Calhoun

The manual is there; the server is just a bit prickly about the way you approach it!

Click on the link above the manual, then click on the Brochures & Manuals link and you should see the Instruction Manual.

I think it's out of stock because it's never really been in stock! The camera hadn't arrived at any locations prior to the Japanese Tsunami, and the situation hasn't really changed since.

Sony GV-D200 I've been using a Sony GV-D200 deck to transfer old Video8 and Hi8 tapes. Some of these tapes are over twenty years old, and no longer having a Hi8 camcorder that worked I was concerned that if I didn't do something about transferring them to a more modern format soon, I might never be able to. In response to my iPhone musings, I got the following reader email which actually sums up a lot of my second and third thoughts too: You might have a point about the fancier camera, but otherwise I would buy the smaller model. Its screen is about the same size as that of my Nexus 4, and I don't feel at all like it limits me with a too-small screen. But I do sometimes stretch to get my thumb the reach to the other corner of the screen. It is plenty big for a phone. A phone is a pocket thing.
