Canon 7D overheating update

Is the overheating problem caused - or more frequent - when capturing at 720p and 480p? That's one of the things that seems to be common about the users that have had problems. In fact, two of them seem to have subsequently found that recording at 1080p in 24 and 30fps does not have the same problem.

If that is the case, it could be due to the extra processing scaling the image down to the smaller sizes, or because of the higher frames rates (50 and 60fps) used in those two modes. Or it could be something else.

Still had serious problems with the camera overheating in any room that is reasonably warm and if i have been recording more than a few minutes. I really hope they fix this soon like RED had to when they first came out with it, otherwise I can't use the camera.

Can you provide any more details? What mode (1080 or 720), what's "reasonably warm" and how long is a few minutes?
If it's below 75, shooting at 1080, and gets the overheating warning in less than five minutes of turning on, I'd guess your camera was defective.

In response to my iPhone musings, I got the following reader email which actually sums up a lot of my second and third thoughts too: You might have a point about the fancier camera, but otherwise I would buy the smaller model. Its screen is about the same size as that of my Nexus 4, and I don't feel at all like it limits me with a too-small screen. But I do sometimes stretch to get my thumb the reach to the other corner of the screen. It is plenty big for a phone. A phone is a pocket thing.
